How God spared my life!

The U.S.S. Reno was a light cruiser ship which served the United States Navy during WWII. This is a testimony of one of the crew members of how God spared his life when the ship took a torpedo. For more history and photos on the U.S.S. Reno click click here.

Our ship had been involved in a few battles against Japan with Japanese air craft. One night during the war we were on our way to the Philippine Islands where we would no doubt engage in more battles with the Japanese. On this particular night, our ship took a torpedo hit. I was with a group of young men sitting on the deck of the ship talking. We decided that we needed to get some sleep before standing watch at mid-night. Our watch was from 2400 hours to 0400 hours (12 a.m. to 4 a.m.). As I was going to my bunk, I felt a voice speaking to my heart that said "Don't sleep in your bunk tonight." I felt this voice speak to my heart a total of three different times. After the third time I felt this, I took a blanket and went to the deck where I was later going to be standing watch. About 5 minutes before we were scheduled to be woke up to stand watch, a torpedo hit the compartment just forward of where I would have been sleeping.

Had God not spoken to my heart telling me not to sleep in my bunk I probably wouldn't be alive today to tell you this story.
